The City of Royal Oak is an inner-ring suburb of Detroit that is conveniently located near several major thoroughfares making Royal Oak's location prime. This is proven by the steady increase of property values experienced across the city. Royal Oak has preserved the feeling of a small town, while offering many of the amenities of a larger city. Because of its respect for diversity, the city's composition is truly eclectic. The population of nearly 60,000 residents is a diverse mix of individuals, age groups, incomes, and a wide range of residential home styles. Downtown improvements have included changes to the landscape that encourage socialization including a number of large condominiums and lofts having been built in the area which also increased the density of the downtown population.
